Lake Tansi Village invites everyone to their Annual Memorial Day Festival & Cruise-In Friday, May 26th 10am-6pm and Saturday, May 27th 9am-4pm. Both days enjoy an arts & crafts show, kids bouncy houses, cartoons, games, and more. Plus, a movie on the beach beginning at dusk. Saturday it's a Pancake Breakfast from 7:30am-10:30am at Tansi Church, Cruise-In from 1pm-4pm and live entertainment 2pm-4pm. The Cumberland County High School Lady Jets Basketball Team will have freshmen tryouts on Tuesday, May 30th & Wednesday May 31st from 10am-12pm at CCHS. Tryouts are open to 8th grade girls who will be attending CCHS. A current physical and evaluation packet are required to tryout. Tryout packets can be picked up in the front office at CCHS. The Plateau Corvette Club meets on the first Thursday of every month. Our next meeting is Thursday May 4th at 5:30 pm, meeting at the Crossville Outlet Center Meeting room. We will have a Tech session at 5;30 and the meeting will start at 6:00 pm. All Corvette owners are invited to join them as they plan trips and events that they can enjoy with their Corvettes. CCHS Jets freshman baseball tryouts will be held May 30&31 at Jet Park from 12-2. Players must be present for both days of tryouts, being their own personal gear, and a copy of a current physical. Questions may be directed to dprichard@ccschools.k12tn.net.

On Tuesday, May 30th, there is a mandatory meeting for all parents of children who play football at Cumberland County High School. The meeting will begin at 5 pm in the P.E. classroom off the gym at CCHS.

The Cumberland House of Hospice of Cumberland County Seventh Annual Celebration of Life Butterfly Release will be held on the Crossville Courthouse lawn and gazebo on June 10 at Nine AM and is hosted by the Fairfield Glade Hospice Auxiliary. Butterflies are reserved for Twenty dollars each or purchase Six for One Hundred dollars. The deadline for reservations is May 31. All proceeds benefit the Cumberland House of Hospice of Cumberland County, where end of life comfort and support is always a priority for patients and their loved ones regardless of ability to pay. The Cumberland County Republican Women's Club will hold a meeting on June 1 at 5:30 at the Republican Headquarters at 539 West Ave., Suite 103, Crossville, Tenn. 38555. Everyone is encouraged to attend as we will be evaluating our food sales for the year and future plans including a possible picnic in the fall for Republican Party members. Attention Jr. Golfers! Registration for the Golf Capital Jr. Tour is now open. Ages 10-17 will compete in several different events at local Cumberland County golf courses. The Golf Capital Junior Tour season first event is Thursday, June 1st. To participate in a GCJT event you must become a 2017 member. The Cumberland County Sheriff?s Office will be holding the Sheriff?s Youth Academy the summer of 2017. This is a program that is designed to provide the youth in our communities the opportunity to gain insight into the everyday functions and training of the variety of law enforcement agencies and emergency services in our government. The youth academy is NOT a boot camp for troubled youth. It is a program offered to students who have an interest in law enforcement. The Academy will be held at the Cumberland County Community Complex. Breakfast and lunch will be provided each day. The cost of the program is $25.00 per student, however grants are available for any student that wants to attend but needs assistance. Students who complete the course will receive a Sheriff?s Cadet Polo Shirt and a certificate at the Sheriff?s Academy Graduation.

The curriculum includes Responding to Crisis Situations, Defensive Tactics, Handcuffing, Patrol Procedures, Traffic Enforcement, Criminal Investigations, Crime Scene Processing, K-9 Units, S.W.A.T. Tactics, Overview of Criminal Justice System, including a mock trial and much more. Participants must be able to complete physical training including a qualifying obstacle course.

CCHS Jets Summer Baseball Camp will be held June 19-21 at Jet Park from 9-12 each day. This camp is open to players aged 5-12. The clinic will include instruction on catching and throwing, hitting, base running, and defensive skills. It costs $20 per child to participate. You can preregister by emailing dprichard@ccschools.k12tn.net, or sign them up the first day of the camp.

Rat Run on the Mountain, hosted by the Foster Adoptive Parent Association of the Upper Cumberland Region will be held September 30th from 10-2 at the fairgrounds. There is a $1 admission fee. There will be vendor booths available for shopping. All proceeds from this event go toward bettering the lives of children.

The Boys Scouts of America Troop #174 meets every Tuesday evening at 6:30 PM at the Scout Hut on City Lake Road. The Venture Crews, an offshoot of the Boy Scouts, meet Thursday nights at 7 PM at the same location. For information call Troop Master David Dial at 788-5066.

Home Away From Home Head Start is currently accepting applications to provide free comprehensive child development services to children 3 to 5 years old. The program is for low-income families and is a full day-full year program. For more information on the educational and health services provided, call 484-3238.

The Cumberland Adult Reading Council provides free, one-on-one tutoring for adults who want to learn to read, write, and improve math skills. To learn more about their services, contact the Cumberland Adult Reading Council at 337-5809

The Art Circle Public Library offers free public internet access, with 21 computers for public use. The library hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday and Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The public is encouraged to take advantage of this free service offered by the library.

The Bread of Life Rescue Mission is in need of donations of non-perishable food such as dry rice or beans, instant potatoes, canned foods, peanut butter, and Jello and Kool-Aid mixes. You may drop off donations at the mission located at 281 W. Fourth Street, or call 707-0503.

The Fairfield Glade and Crossville Lion's Clubs are forming LEO Service Clubs at Stone Memorial and Cumberland County High Schools.
